SUMMARY:JOET Right-Sizing E-Mobility
DESCRIPTION:A substantial portion of daily travel in the U.S. takes place using vehicles that are significantly overpowered for a substantial portion of travel needs: 86 percent of trips in the U.S. are taken in personal vehicles designed to travel at highway speeds\, yet more than half of daily trips in the U.S. are under 5 miles and the average occupancy of vehicle trips in the US is 1.5 persons. \nThese statistics point to a “missing middle” of transportation options in the U.S. that are right-sized to meet the needs of many local\, daily trips. Many of these trips are too far to walk but too short to necessitate a personal vehicle. Right-sizing e-mobility means giving Americans opportunities to safely use smaller-format\, low-speed vehicle types. \nJoin to learn about an upcoming resource from the Joint Office on Right-Sizing e-Mobility. We’ll cover: \n\nVehicle options in the “missing middle\,” including e-scooters\, e-bikes\, e-cargo bikes\, and low-speed vehicles (LSVs)\nHow right-sizing addresses equity\, safety\, and land use efficiency\nSustainability advantages of right-sizing mobility\nReal-world case studies from cities that have supported LSVs\nAnd more!\n\nSpeakers will include: \n\nModerator: Debs Schrimmer\, Senior Advisor for Community\nZachary T. Bergeron\, Transportation Policy Analyst\, U.S. DOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center\nJake Romoff\, Project Coordinator for Transportation and Regional Planning\, South Bay Cities Council of Governments\nJacob Sherman\, New Mobility & Electrification Program Manager\, City of Portland\n\nPlease note\, the external views and findings expressed in this webinar are informational only and have not been reviewed or endorsed by the Joint Office. \nRegister for the webinar here: https://nrel.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_l1sWobGVRb2VH0-KY7zGrA#/registration
