Kentucky Clean Fuels Coalition partnered with the Kentucky Department of Education to purchase 134 hybrid school buses with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding from the Department of Energy.  These buses represent the largest hybrid school bus fleet in the nation.  With additional buses on order, 215 hybrid school buses are expected to be on the road by the end of 2012.

In addition to the reduction in emissions, this project has served as a model for other school systems to follow.  A hybrid energy curriculum has been developed for the classroom and public outreach has been achieved through newspapers, journal articles, TV news, and internet television features.
