Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works operates the largest transit system in Florida, which ranks fifteenth largest in the U.S. with over 80 million passenger trips per year. Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works has shown a clear committed to clean CNG Transit bus technology with a project investment budget over $350 million.
With the arrival of 140 new CNG buses in 2020, the transit system now operates 560 CNG buses, which makes up three quarters of its entire fleet. The CNG buses emit 90% less NOx emissions. The transit system and new buses are participating in the renewable CNG program. The CNG buses are anticipated to save over $450,000 per year over traditional diesel technology. A CNG filling station has also been completed along with updating other fueling facilities to accommodate the additional CNG buses.
